As Luxury Wedding Planners on the Amalfi Coast, we work with our couples to ensure a seamless experience so that you can celebrate your love story in the most memorable way. It was a pleasure to provide our service to Briana and Rocco, who spent their wedding at the NH Convento in Amalfi. We welcome you to keep scrolling so that you can find out a little more about their special day, while gathering inspiration for your very own Italian celebration.
“As soon as we decided to get married in Italy, I knew we needed to hire a planner. Rocco and I both work full-time, and I am also still in school trying to get my accounting degree. There was NO WAY I would be able to plan a wedding overseas and not have a breakdown! The Amalfi Experience ladies were the first planners we contacted – as soon as I spoke with Jacquie over the phone I was confident that we would be in good hands and I was sold immediately. I felt so comfortable from the very beginning that this team knew what they were doing. The fact that there was no language barrier was also a HUGE positive! Also, the first time I looked at the website I was blown away – it was crazy to see so many photos of all of these magical weddings and know that our dream wedding could actually happen. Honestly there are not enough words to thank the ladies at The Amalfi Experience for allowing us to experience the most magical day ever.
Our day started with myself, my bridesmaids, my mom, and my mother-in-law getting ready at our villa – the stunning Palazzo Casanova. Rocco went to the beach with his friends in the morning (must be nice to be a guy!) and came back to the villa to get ready in the afternoon.
Once he was ready, everyone left for the Amalfi Duomo except for myself, my parents, and my bridesmaids. I was able to do a “reveal” with my dad, and after that, him and my mom left for the church. My bridesmaids and I took a few more photos and then got a ride to the Duomo in a Fiat Jolly. After our ceremony, all of our guests headed to NH Collection Grand Hotel Convento di Amalfi for cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing.
Amalfi is so beautiful on its own – we did not want to take away from that. I wanted everything to look super elegant, but I also wanted to incorporate small details that were representative of Amalfi. For example, lemons and figs on the imperial table.
It was important to me that my wedding dress reflect me and my personal style. I wanted my dress to be classic and simple, but also stylish and “different.” I never would have thought in a million years that I would have picked a ballgown, but my face truly lit up when I tried on my dress – I felt like me in it. My dress (Matilda by Millanova) was also originally off-the-shoulder, but I had the top reconstructed so it was strapless.
One of the biggest challenges for me when I was dress shopping was the fact that I needed my shoulders covered in the Amalfi Duomo. I wanted my “cover” to look like it was thought out and planned – I did not want to put on a shawl and call it a day! The day I said yes to the dress was the day I found my dream covering. As soon as I put on the full look, I knew that it was the right one. On its own, my dress gave me Carrie Bradshaw vibes with its asymmetrical neckline. When I added on my cover with its big puffy sleeves, it felt a bit vintage – I was obsessed.
My goal was to wear my hair in a messy updo – I just wanted it to look effortless. Piero Mansi 100% delivered on this – my hair looked incredible! I loved it so much that I didn’t take it out until I was about to jump into the water during our boat cruise the day after the wedding. The only other accessories I wore was my long veil, my engagement ring, and matching earrings given to me by my mother-in-law. One other accessory that no one else saw was my garter – my aunt and godmother (who sadly could not attend the wedding) surprised me with it before we left for Italy. When she found out that Rocco was getting his suit custom made, she asked that a garter be made from the same material as the suit – it was so special.
My wedding day makeup look was very similar to what I wear on a daily basis – glowy skin and a winged eyeliner. A classic makeup look to go with my classic dress! Zoe was so sweet and did an amazing job – it was exactly what I wanted. I felt the most beautiful I have ever felt but I still felt like myself.
I don’t think I will ever get over how gorgeous our reception looked. We had all of our family and friends seated at an imperial table in the “Monk’s Walk” area of the Convento. We were essentially on the side of a cliff overlooking the Amalfi coast – it was insane. We had white florals, greenery, lemons, and figs running down the entire table and cascading to the floor. We had blue and gold mosaic plates, gold cutlery, and blue water glasses. Thanks to Rosie’s great suggestions we also had gold candles all along the table and this was a game changer – so beautiful! We also had fairy lights intertwined with the vines/flowers over our heads. The whole set up was so stunning and really helped to make everything feel super intimate. One of my favourite pieces of décor was the two massive baby’s breath arrangements that we had at the “entrance” to the reception.
If any small part of you is considering getting married in Amalfi, DO IT. Rocco and I both come from big Italian families, and the type of wedding we had is definitely not the norm. We have heard from others that the type of wedding we had would be “impossible,” since their families were too big. Honestly, getting married in Italy was our dream, and really, your wedding day is about you! Although we do wish that our entire families could have been there with us on our special day, we are so, so, so, SO happy that we made this decision. It has been so fun going through all of our sneak peek photos with our family members that could not attend and we know that they are so happy for us. We will cherish this day for the rest of our lives and we are so happy that we were able to experience this. 😊
If you do decide to get married in Amalfi, definitely work with The Amalfi Experience as you will not be disappointed! It may seem impossible planning a wedding overseas but these ladies really do make it feel so easy.
Briana’s Favourite Moments
1. Getting to walk down the aisle with my dad. My dad turned 82 this year and so growing up I always worried that he wouldn’t be there to walk me down the aisle one day. He was also born in Italy and we had never been in Italy together, and that was always a dream of mine. The fact that I was able to experience this with him was a dream come true and I was super emotional about this!
2. Seeing Rocco for the first time in the Duomo. For months leading up to the wedding, Rocco would say all the time that there is no way he would cry when he saw me in church (I knew I would, and I did!) All I am going to say is that we will forever have photographic evidence that he did. 😉
3. Eating gelato on the steps of the Duomo (the most important photo – it was a must for me) and driving away in the Fiat Jolly. I literally felt like we were celebrities.
4. Having my “Lizzie McGuire” moment singing “What Dreams Are Made Of” during our reception. I am a little worried to see the video of this hahahahaha – I honestly felt like I was having my own concert. I am not really the type of person who likes to sing and dance in front of people, but I was having the most fun ever (it really was the best day of our lives) and I did not care!
