It’s been a truly memorable wedding season here on the Amalfi Coast and we’ve loved every second of planning love stories once again. We’re over the moon to be able to share Christian + Antonella’s very special day with you on the blog today. Living in London, the groom is English while the bride is Italian, so we incorporated plenty of traditional touches to their stunning celebration. We’ll hand you straight over to the beautiful Antonella so you can be inspired for your own Amalfi Coast wedding day…
“I was desperately looking for a wedding planner. I had searched for a while, we had met a few wedding planners at Ravello but we were not satisfied. I had started on my own the wedding planning and Jacquie was recommended by Franco the florist from Atrani. I looked at the website and had a call with Jacquie and she impressed me with her passion. She sounded very much like me a volcano (of ideas and creativity)! We wanted an international team based in the Amalfi Coast and that could help with complicated logistic. I love their website and Instagram and the pics of the weddings planned by the TAE were all stylish, classy and never flashy.
Our wedding day was on 30 August 2021 (also the day of our wedding anniversary). Christian and I live in London. In June 2020 due to the pandemic, after almost one year of planning with TAE, we decided to postpone the ceremony in Ravello but to get married anyway on 30 August 2020; on this day we had a small civil ceremony in my hometown Roccella Jonica in the courtyard of the medieval castle of the town, overlooking the sea with circa 30 guests. It was intimate and special and we do not regret having two weddings.
On 30 August 2021, in Ravello it was absolutely the most perfect day! It was very sunny and not too hot. I got ready at the Hotel Caruso, while Christian was staying at Palazzo Confalone. My bridesmaids, my father and I walked to the square. I was very emotional.
The Duomo was beautifully decorated. It had a special meaning especially for me as a catholic and for my family to have this religious ceremony. My splendid flower girl (my niece) with my sister in law were waiting on top of the stairs and started the procession and then my bridesmaids. Then, I walked down the aisle with my dad with “salut d’amour” by Elgar who is an English composer. It was very moving to see Christian waiting for me again (salut d’amour playing again) but this time at the altar of the Duomo di Ravello!
We had waited for so long because of the pandemic and we could not believe that this was finally happening. Our exit from the church was typical of all Italian weddings, we have indeed opted for having our guests throwing rice instead of petals and confetti, it is probably less fun for the bride and the groom but it is part of the game! The international guests did not know this tradition and they enjoyed it too.
The colours of the wedding palette were blue “carta da zucchero”/navy, yellow and white. These were the colours of the bridesmaid, my sister and my flower girl. These colours were all included in our wedding crest beautifully designed by Martina (Lana Dreams) decorated with acacia/mimosa, lemons and other flowers. I chose the acacia to give some hint of yellow, but also because of my wedding dress that came from Vera Wang collection “Enchantment” and the specific model is called acacia. The main theme was a specific maiolica (including all the colours of the palette). The maiolica theme was everywhere: in the fan that we gave to the guests at the church, in the menu handprinted by Martina, in the cushions used in the lounge, in the chocolate tiles by Sal De riso, in the real tiles designed bespoke by Ninfeo in Amalfi and placed on the plate for the guests, in the hand painted seating chart, in the little bags containing italian confetti and in the table numbers.
Martina also painted the Ravello map for our Invitation (including the villa, the duomo and Bar Luigi)and our wedding weekend itinerary. Other details were the cushions for the wedding bands was embroided with our wedding crest. The engagement ring was in a beautiful silver “cofanetto” that was given by my mother. It belonged to my grandmother and my grand father used it to propose to my grand mother. The white long robe for the wedding preparation was also given by my mother and is the one she used at her wedding.
For the reception, Villa Eva was the perfect venue for us. We definitely wanted a Ravello wedding. We thought, the main belvedere and the terrace were simply magical. The beauty of this villa is that you never get bored. There are so many spaces for the guests: double Belvedere, dancing/lounge area, porticato for the aperitivo, big gardens and big gazebo/marquee covered in jasmine and facing the main Belvedere. The event managers, especially Tina, were very caring, professional and very accommodating with my requests.
We would say enjoy every single moment and trust the TAE that will take care of everything. The day goes too quickly and you do not want to waste time worrying.
Also, choose your wedding planner and the other suppliers very carefully as they are a big part of your special day. We have been very lucky, as we have chosen the best team. Special mention goes to Rosie (and the TAE team), Gianni (and his team), Nello (and his team), Alessandro and Diego who have been incredible in supporting me and us until the very last minute on our wedding day.”
